Job Description

Job Title: Athletic Trainer Didactic Intern

Department: Washington Athletics, reporting to the Head Football Athletic Trainer.

Job Type: This is an entry-level, full-time, non-renewable 10-month position that will begin at the conclusion of the recruitment process.

Key Responsibilities:

Primary On-Site Research Coordinator:
• Involve participant consent, data acquisition, and upload for a research study focused on head impacts within an NCAA Division I football program.
• Maintain, distribute, and clean equipment related to the research study.
Athletic Training Services:
• Assist the football medical staff in administering comprehensive athletic training services to the University of Washington Football team.
• Provide prevention, evaluation, and treatment of athletic injuries and illnesses.
• Offer counseling and education to student-athletes as needed.
• Work collaboratively with team physicians and other allied healthcare professionals.
Documentation and Administration:
• Ensure accurate and thorough record keeping and documentation.
• Assist with other assigned athletic training and administrative duties.
• Adhere to and carry out established policies and procedures.

Educational Opportunities (Optional):

The successful candidate will have the option to:
• Participate in a didactic educational course.
• Attend monthly grand rounds and journal club with the UW Medical Team.
• Engage in educational rotations with team physicians and medical specialists (including physiatry, casting, nutrition, psychology, and wellness services), subject to scheduling availability and assignment by the education director.

Compliance:
The position requires strict adherence to the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Pac-12 Conference, the State of Washington, and any other relevant governing body. The employee will be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: Master’s degree in athletic training or another sports medicine area of study.
Certifications:
• NATABOC certification.
• Current CPR and First Aid/AED certifications.
• Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Washington.
Interest: Acute interest in sports medicine research.
Skills & Experience:
• Entry-level proficiency in manual therapy, functional movement assessments, sport-specific rehabilitation, and injury prevention programs.
• Demonstrated ability to relate to both men’s and women’s athletic injuries and health-related issues.
• Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with other intercollegiate athletic staff, coaches, and the local medical community.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Equivalent education/experience may substitute for all minimum qualifications, except where legal requirements (such as license/certification/registration) apply.
