Job Description
• Job Title: Athletic Trainer Didactic Intern
• Employment Type: Entry level, full-time, non-renewable 10-month position.
• Start Date: At the conclusion of the recruitment process.
• Department: Washington Athletics
• Reports To: Head Football Athletic Trainer
Summary: This position involves acting as a primary on-site research coordinator for a head impact study in an NCAA Division I football program, while also assisting the football medical staff in administering comprehensive athletic training services to the University of Washington Football team. The role offers an optional didactic educational course, monthly grand rounds, journal club, and educational rotations with team physicians and medical specialists.
Responsibilities:
• Act as the primary on-site research coordinator for a research study involving head impacts in an NCAA Division I football program. This includes:
• Participant consent.
• Data acquisition and upload.
• Equipment maintenance, distribution, and cleaning.
• Assist football medical staff with administering comprehensive athletic training services to the University of Washington Football team.
• Provide prevention, evaluation, and treatment of athletic injuries and illnesses.
• Offer counseling and education to student-athletes as needed.
• Work collaboratively with team physicians and other allied health care professionals.
• Ensure accurate and thorough record keeping and documentation.
• Assist with other athletic training and administrative duties as assigned.
• Adhere to and carry out established policies and procedures.
• Optional Educational Components:
• Participation in a didactic educational course.
• Monthly grand rounds and journal club with the UW Medical Team.
• Educational rotations with team physicians and medical specialists (including physiatry, casting, nutrition, psychology, wellness services) as assigned by the education director, when scheduling allows.
Compliance:
• The successful candidate must ensure full compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Pac-12 Conference, the State of Washington, and any other governing body.
• As a condition of employment, the Employee is required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Minimum Requirements:
• Master’s degree in athletic training or other sports medicine area of study.
• NATABOC certification.
• Current CPR and First Aid/AED certifications.
• Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Washington.
• Must have an acute interest in sports medicine research.
• Entry-level proficiency in:
• Manual therapy.
• Functional movement assessments.
• Sport-specific rehabilitation and injury prevention programs.
• Demonstrated ability to relate to both men’s and women’s athletic injuries and health-related issues.
• Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with other intercollegiate athletic staff, coaches, and the local medical community.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
