Assurance Intern – Winter 2028 (Austin) | BDO USA

The Tone:
This is a seasonal internship at BDO USA, located in Austin, TX. BDO is a professional services organization that provides assurance, tax, and advisory services to clients across the U.S. and around the world, known for supporting self-starters with an entrepreneurial spirit. This role matters as it allows interns to utilize their educational background and organizational skills to serve BDO’s dynamic client base, gaining hands-on experience and beginning to forge critical relationships that will help maximize their success in a career in assurance.

• Pay: $32–$45 hourly
• Mission: Assist in problem-solving and fact-finding within the Assurance practice, working alongside experienced team members to support various stages of the audit process.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Learn: Participate in a structured on-the-job training program to become familiar with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), and BDO’s audit methodology.
• Support: Provide various support functions to the audit staff throughout engagements.
• Communicate: Communicate with clients’ customers, creditors, banks, and related parties concerning audit issues.
• Document: Prepare and document work in working papers utilizing BDO specific tools and templates.
• Research: Complete one assigned accounting or audit related research project and present findings to a panel of Assurance professionals.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Accounting.
• Experience: Entry-level position, no specific years of experience required.
• Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Bonus: Pursuing a Master’s degree in Accounting; Actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA; Leadership experience; Ability to follow instructions as directed; Ability to work effectively in a team setting; Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
