Job Description: Associate, Research Services

This is a full-time, entry-level consulting position within BRG’s Research Services department, open to candidates graduating between December 2024 and July 2025. The application period remains open until September 12, 2025, with resumes reviewed on a rolling basis.

Overview: The Research Services department provides data subscriptions and research resources to enhance BRG’s operational efficiency and profitability. Associates contribute to cost-effective operations, improved management systems, and high-quality customer service and training for BRG colleagues. The role involves supporting all BRG practices firm-wide through various research tasks and projects. This includes learning and utilizing department tools and databases to locate documents, court filings, and data; conducting research across diverse industries and areas; and managing multiple requests and projects efficiently while maintaining clear communication. Exceptional customer service within the firm is a key priority.

Responsibilities: The work is a blend of quantitative and qualitative tasks, adapted to project demands and individual skills. Projects encompass subject matter research, data collection, and preparation of economic, statistical, financial, and other forms of analysis. Associates collaborate within a team to gather evidence from data and research to inform expert opinions.

General Responsibilities:

• Reviewing data sets and qualitative materials to understand project requirements and complexities.
• Conducting detailed research on project-relevant topics.
• Collaborating within a team to meet deadlines and quality expectations.
• Applying critical thinking skills.
• Communicating findings and economic concepts clearly to senior staff, experts, and clients.
• Developing creative and efficient analytical solutions.
• Auditing own work and the work of others to ensure quality.
• Demonstrating strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Contributing to client deliverables and expert reports.
• Developing and maintaining electronic databases, spreadsheets, and other project-related files.

Quantitative Aspects:

• Identifying and collecting data from various sources.
• Developing, maintaining, and analyzing databases, spreadsheets, and files.
• Combining programming, model building, and statistical analysis skills (using relational database and statistical software) with economic intuition to analyze various subjects. Software proficiency in SQL, R, Stata, SAS, Python, or Snowflake is preferred but not mandatory; willingness to learn is key.

Qualitative Aspects:

• Gathering and reviewing information from academic literature, legal documents, industry resources, commercial databases, and other relevant sources.
• Summarizing and communicating research results.
• Producing well-reasoned analyses for various cases and projects across industries.

Qualifications:

• Master’s or bachelor’s degree in economics, mathematics, data science, statistics, accounting, finance, healthcare administration, or a related field.
3.5 GPA or higher.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• 0–2 years of experience (including internships).
• Strong analytical abilities and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
• Intellectual curiosity, self-motivation, and a capacity for quick learning.
• Proficiency in MS Excel.
• Experience with relational database programs (e.g., MS SQL Server, SAS, MS Access, Tableau, Alteryx, MySQL, Oracle, Snowflake, or Teradata) is desirable but not required.
• Experience with statistical analysis programs (e.g., R, Stata, SAS, Python, SPSS) is desirable but not required.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Location: The position is based in one of BRG’s offices, requiring on-site work three to four days a week on average. Remote flexibility is available, though in-office time is beneficial for new Associates. Preferred location is College Station, TX, but East or West Coast offices are also options. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
