Job Description
This job offers a summer internship program at Performance Contracting, specifically seeking motivated college students with a strong work ethic. The primary goal of this internship is to provide interns with the necessary tools and resources to gain comprehensive insight into the specialty construction industry.
Throughout the summer, interns will benefit from close mentorship and engaging hands-on activities, designed to provide real-world experience and help them develop a solid foundation in construction management. Each intern will be paired with a dedicated mentor within their assigned branch. This mentor will guide them through the Performance Contracting Intern Activities Checklist, a structured framework designed to expose interns to various disciplines within the branch’s business operations. As tasks are completed, interns are required to submit Weekly Project Recaps, detailing their activities, collaborations, and key takeaways.
Examples of tasks included on the Intern Activities Checklist are:
• Learning to write detailed proposals.
• Preparing bid analysis and reviews.
• Understanding and demonstrating project scheduling.
• Attending pre-bid walk-throughs.
• Learning the management processes for project labor control, material handling, and job-cost analysis.
• Learning to effectively manage subcontractors, materials, and equipment.
• Working directly with owners, construction managers, architects, engineers, and contractors.
• Assisting in the preparation of quantity take-offs.
• Maintaining accurate and timely project documentation and correspondence.
• Understanding the preparation of financial job cost analysis.
• Learning the administration of the corporate safety program to ensure job site safety.
• Understanding specialized equipment utilization.
• Tracking and costing material handling value.
Performance Contracting provides an hourly wage, relocation reimbursement, and a corporate housing option for all interns. The hourly wage is $25 an hour. Upon completion of the internship, each intern will receive an evaluation, which will be considered for future employment opportunities with the company. Interns also receive a $2,000 Scholarship and are eligible for Paid Holidays.
Requirements
Basic Requirements:
• Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student pursuing a Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a comparable degree.
• Must have a reliable source of transportation.
Minimum Requirements:
• Must be willing to relocate for the assignment.
• Possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
• Have a clear understanding of how to read and understand specifications and drawings.
• Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to learn new job skills by engaging in technical aspects and applying new skills as taught.
• Possess customer service skills.
• Exhibit critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to multitask.
Preferred Requirements:
• Demonstrated baseline construction knowledge, acquired through relevant work experience or the completion of a second-year construction management/engineering curriculum.
• Basic knowledge of BlueBeam, AutoCAD, and/or OnScreen Takeoff is considered a plus.
