Job Title: Associate Chaplain for Muslim and Interfaith Life
Department: Chaplain’s Office

Grade: 13
FTE/Working Schedule: This is a part-time position, designated as 0.50 FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) over 12-months.

Position Overview:
The Associate Chaplain for Muslim and Interfaith Life plays a crucial role within the Chaplain’s Office, providing religious, programmatic, and educational resources primarily to Muslim students and the entire College community. The Muslim Chaplain is expected to significantly promote interfaith life across campus, contributing to its ongoing strength and development. This role encompasses serving as a religious leader, community builder, educator, supervisor, and program coordinator for religion and spirituality.
Compensation:
The expected starting salary range for this part-time position is between $42,100 and $44,400. This salary range has been prorated to reflect the 0.50 FTE nature of the role. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training, licensure and certifications, market factors, departmental budgets, and responsibility.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
The core duties of this position include:
• Planning and co-leading Muslim holiday, religious, and cultural events, in collaboration with chaplaincy staff, the Muslim Student Association (MSA), and other College faculty, staff, and students.
• Advising the MSA and other student religious groups on planning events, programs, or worship.
• Initiating programs and events for the nurture and education of both the Muslim community and the broader campus.
• Collaborating with campus constituencies to advocate for the needs of religious students and implement appropriate supports, including coordination with dining services, residence life, and other departments.
• Advising the Muslim Interest House, assisting with applications and programming.
• Participating in the Council for Religious Understanding, a biweekly interfaith dialogue student group.
• Counseling students, faculty, and staff as needed and appropriate.
Additional Job Responsibilities:
Further responsibilities may be assigned in consultation with the Chaplain.
Supervision Received and Exercised:
• The Associate Chaplain will meet regularly with the Chaplain for assessment and planning.
• The Associate Chaplain will meet regularly with the Muslim Chaplain’s Associate (a student peer leader) for assessment and planning.
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
Candidates for this position must possess:
• A Master’s degree in a relevant field, or be in the process of acquiring one.
• Experience with evidence of professional preparation for chaplaincy.
• Demonstrated aptitude for dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
• Familiarity with a diverse higher education environment and the developmental issues of young adults.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• The ability to work effectively with undergraduates and colleagues from a wide array of backgrounds, faith traditions, sects, and cultures.
• Schedule flexibility to accommodate some evening or weekend hours for special events.
Additionally, candidates must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels.
