Assistant Instructor | Black Rocket
The Tone:
This is a seasonal contract role at Black Rocket, with positions available in various in-person locations across more than 30 states. Black Rocket delivers unique educational programs that blend creativity with technology for children and young adults, focusing on areas like coding, video game design, digital arts, and STEM. This Assistant Instructor role is crucial for our mission to prepare kids for tomorrow’s challenges by fostering self-empowerment, critical thinking, and creative problem solving. You’ll be part of a team that helps ignite, unleash, and enhance the distinct talents of every student through engaging, hands-on learning experiences, making learning fun and impactful.

• Mission: Facilitate engaging tech education, inspiring kids aged 6-14 to develop critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills through hands-on learning.
• Tech Stack: Python, Javascript, Lua, Roblox, App Design, Digital Arts, Video Editing, Robotics, Drones, Minecraft, 3D modeling, coding, game creation or design, animation, modifying games, competitive gaming.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Instruct: Work directly in-room with children aged 6-14, guiding them through a variety of technology and digital arts projects and activities.
• Educate: Facilitate hands-on learning experiences in exciting classes covering subjects like Python, Javascript, Lua, Roblox, Minecraft, app design, digital arts, video editing, robotics, drones, and general STEM concepts.
• Support: Provide individualized assistance and encouragement to students, fostering their self-empowerment, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving abilities within a fun, tech-focused environment.
• Troubleshoot: Offer strong technical and digital arts troubleshooting support, helping students overcome challenges related to 3D modeling, coding, game creation, animation, and other digital tools.
• Inspire: Engage students with cutting-edge technology and creative projects, making learning enjoyable and accessible, while enhancing their distinct talents and building valuable skills for the future.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates must be 18 years of age or older. College students currently studying education, computer science, digital arts, information technology, or similar academic fields are especially encouraged to apply for this enriching summer experience.
• Experience: Requires availability to work a minimum of 4 consecutive weeks, Monday through Friday, during the summer season (June-August). Must be available to start online paid training in May, which can be completed at your own pace. While no formal experience is strictly required, prior experience working with children in an educational, formal, or informal setting (such as babysitting, volunteering, coaching, or tutoring) is preferred and considered a significant plus.
• Skills: Demonstrated strong technology skills are essential, including proficiency in areas like 3D modeling, coding, game creation or design, animation, robotics, modifying games, video editing, digital arts, competitive gaming, or significant knowledge of Minecraft or Roblox. Strong troubleshooting skills in both technology and digital arts are highly valued for success in this position. Above all, a genuine love for working with kids is mandatory.
