Job Description

Position: Assistant Academic Coordinator (Intern 2025-2026 Academic Year)

This is a full-time, temporary internship within the Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes (ASPSA) at NC State University. The internship is designed to provide hands-on experience and prepare individuals for full-time positions in academic support for student-athletes.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise and monitor student-athletes, tutors, and mentors in structured study hall environments.
• Facilitate the creation and regular updating of administrative reports, including academic update reports (AURs), study hall attendance, and daily reports.
• Work with tutorial and mentoring program staff to set up and oversee group and one-on-one tutorial and mentoring sessions.
• Determine the academic support needs of an assigned group of student-athletes through individual meetings and record grades.
• Co-teach University Studies Courses (USC) for first-year student-athletes.
• Assist in the day-to-day operation of auxiliary areas such as class attendance policy and USC curriculum.
• Assist in engaging student-athletes in the course selection and registration process.
• Design and present training to tutors and mentors.
• Participate in staff training and mandatory orientations on academic support topics.
• Assist with presentations to prospective student-athletes during campus visits.
• Complete special projects as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from an accredited college or university, or must have completed all requirements for master’s degree with the exception of internship completion
• Minimum of six months of experience supervising young adults in an educational setting.
• Ability to navigate a fast-paced environment, problem-solve, and meet deadlines.
• High ethical standards and integrity.
• Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and listening skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Computer software application skills for report writing.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping.
• Ability to teach academic success strategies.
• Conflict management and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completed a master’s degree in education, higher education administration or leadership, college student personnel, psychology, sociology, and/or sport management.
• At least one year of work experience in an academic support for athletics setting.
• A sincere interest in athletic academic counseling as a profession.
• Basic knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

Compensation:

• $17/hour for 40 hours per week.

Timeline:

• Full time internship: Sept 2, 2025 – May 15, 2026
