Appraiser (Auto Claims) | NYCM Insurance
The Tone:
This is an Appraiser role on the road primarily within the areas of Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and surrounding areas as needed, working with NYCM Insurance. NYCM Insurance is an organization providing insurance services, focusing on material damage claims. This role is crucial for ensuring accurate and quality appraisals of damaged vehicles, handling moderate complexity claims, and delivering an outstanding customer experience to policyholders and other stakeholders.
The TL;DR

• Location: Hybrid- On the road, New York, United States
• Pay: $62,353.20–$89,583 yearly (A location factor of 7.4% to be applied to the offer extended)
• Mission: Complete accurate, quality appraisals of damaged vehicles on all types of material damage claims, ensuring fair settlements and an outstanding customer experience.
• Tech Stack: CCC Quick Estimate, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
What You’ll Actually Do
• Appraise Damages: Create accurate and detailed estimates, supplements, and total loss reports for 1st and 3rd party material damage claims, guided by NYCM Appraiser Best Practices.
• Ensure Accuracy: Document all aspects of the appraisal process and adhere to established best practices to ensure fair settlements, complete customer satisfaction, and cost management.
• Manage Facilities: Complete re-inspections for Direct Repair Facility (ARP) claims for material damage accuracy and provide coaching and feedback to shops based on reviews completed.
• Resolve Claims: Evaluate and determine Actual Cash Value (ACV) for total losses, settle them when necessary, and coordinate the disposal of salvage.
• Customer Interaction: Make first contact with vehicle owners, outline claim expectations, review damages, explain the estimate process, and present/settle based on coverages afforded.
The Must-Haves
• Background: High School Diploma or equivalent, combined with related experience. A working knowledge of automobile physical damage estimating and/or repair, along with general auto body repair knowledge.
• Experience: At least one year experience as an Auto Damage Appraiser, utilizing electronic estimate writing software, preferably CCC. A mandatory NYS Independent Auto Damage and Theft license and a NYS Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record and no restrictions are required.
• Skills: Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to multitask and work independently and efficiently. Effective organization, time management, verbal, written communication, and listening skills. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Bonus: Other license states preferred and familiarity with I-CAR training and coursework.
