Applied Science Intern – Job Description

This internship offers an opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research and development at Amazon. We are looking for skilled PhD students with a passion for machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, automated reasoning, or robotics. As an Applied Science Intern, you will be responsible for designing and developing end-to-end systems, creating technical roadmaps, and driving production-level projects that support Amazon Science. You will collaborate closely with Amazon scientists and other interns to develop innovative solutions and deploy them for real-world impact.

Responsibilities:

Design and develop end-to-end systems: This includes architecting, implementing, and testing complex systems that address challenging problems.
Create technical roadmaps: You will be responsible for outlining the technical path forward for projects, identifying key milestones and dependencies.
Drive production-level projects: This involves bringing your solutions to production environments, ensuring scalability and reliability.
Work with diverse teams: You will collaborate with scientists, engineers, and other interns across different disciplines to tackle complex business challenges.
Contribute to the advancement of Amazon Science: Your contributions will directly impact the cutting-edge research and development efforts at Amazon.

Requirements:

• Currently enrolled in a PhD program in computer science, machine learning, engineering, or related fields.
• Experience with designing experiments and statistical analysis of results.
• Understanding and ability to implement algorithms using both toolkits and self-developed code.
• Proficiency in Java, C++, or other programming languages, as well as with R, MATLAB, Python, or similar scripting languages.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Publication(s) at peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
• Strong technical fluency, comfortable discussing architectural concepts and algorithms.
• Excellent critical thinking skills and effective communication abilities.

Compensation:

• The base pay for this position ranges from $65.38/hr in the lowest geographic market up to $106.83/hr in the highest geographic market.
• Total compensation includes equity, sign-on payments, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
