Job Description

Antenna Intern (Fall 2026) | Astranis Space Technologies

The Tone:
This is an internship at Astranis Space Technologies, located in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA. Astranis is a 450-person organization that builds advanced satellites for high orbits, expanding humanity’s reach into the solar system. The company provides dedicated, secure networks to large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the US military, with over $1 billion in commercial contracts. This role is crucial for designing, building, and testing the antenna systems that power current and next-generation satellite payloads.

The TL;DR
• Role: Antenna Intern (Fall 2026)
• Type: Internship
• Location: In-person, San Francisco Bay Area, CA
• Pay: $29 hourly
• Mission: Design, build, and test antenna systems for ongoing and next-generation satellite payloads.
• Tech Stack: CST, HFSS, TICRA, Matlab, Python, Vector Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Sources

What You’ll Actually Do
• Design: Realize high-performance communications antenna systems with on-orbit flexibility using cutting-edge design tools.
• Procurement: Work with vendors to design and procure antenna and RF components for satellite payloads.
• Validation: Validate the performance of antenna and RF components through anechoic chamber testing.
• Collaboration: Co-design antenna components and systems in conjunction with other technical disciplines, including Mechanical, Structural, Thermal, and Payload Systems.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Student currently enrolled at a four-year university with a fundamental understanding of electromagnetics, including antenna fundamentals, impedance matching, transmission lines, and circuit matching.
• Experience: Measuring components using vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and signal sources.
• Skills: Demonstrated ability to solve engineering challenges in innovative and creative ways; capable of using industry-standard design tools such as CST, HFSS, or TICRA; scripting to solve engineering problems using Matlab or Python.
• Bonus: Experience with 3D printing (Direct Metal Laser Sintering and Fused Deposition Modeling); experience with link budget and system calculations including EIRP, noise figure, and G/T; experience designing waveguide components (OMT, MUX, diplexer, filters, polarizers, etc); experience with reflectors.
