The Opportunity: Analytical Development Intern

Forge Biologics is seeking a highly motivated Analytical Development Intern to join our team for the 2024 Ignite Internship Program. This pivotal role offers the unique chance to collaborate directly with our in-house analytical assay development team, playing a crucial part in supporting cGMP readiness for product testing at the culmination of production.

What You’ll Do:

  • Actively assist with critical product characterization-related assays, directly supporting AAV release, in-depth characterization, method development and optimization, and seamless methods transfer.
  • Provide essential analytical support for gene therapy product process development and manufacturing initiatives, contributing to the lifecycle of groundbreaking therapies.
  • Meticulously compile experimental data, generate comprehensive reports, and ensure the organized archiving of all assay data, maintaining impeccable data integrity.
  • Rigorously apply relevant scientific principles and advanced techniques to solve complex analytical development challenges.
  • Maintain detailed, up-to-date, and meticulously reviewed laboratory notebooks, upholding the highest standards of data integrity and traceability.

What You’ll Gain:

This internship provides unparalleled hands-on experience with a diverse array of cutting-edge molecular biology and biochemical techniques, including but not limited to:

  • DNA extraction from cells and AAV Vectors
  • Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), quantitative PCR (qPCR), and droplet digital PCR (ddPCR)
  • SDS-PAGE (Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate–Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis)
  • Capillary Electrophoresis (CE)
  • Plasmid restriction digestion
  • ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay)

Who We’re Looking For:

We are seeking a bright and enthusiastic individual eager to make a tangible impact:

  • You are currently a junior actively enrolled in a full-time bachelor’s degree program from an accredited college or university.
  • You maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 or equivalent, demonstrating academic excellence.
  • Your field of study is Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related scientific discipline.
  • You are a proactive self-starter, thrive in collaborative environments, possess exceptional attention to detail, and exhibit an inquisitive mindset.
  • While not required, prior laboratory or research experience is a significant advantage, coupled with a strong enthusiasm for learning and scientific discovery.

Location & Logistics:

This internship is an onsite position at our state-of-the-art facility in Grove City, Ohio, conveniently located just 15 minutes from downtown Columbus, Ohio. Please note: Forge Biologics does not provide housing or relocation stipends for non-local interns. Candidates are responsible for securing their own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship program.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

This position operates within both a dynamic laboratory environment and a typical office setting. The physical demands will vary based on specific tasks and duties. Employees will be stationary (standing/sitting) for extended periods. Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, dependent on the task being performed. The ability to work comfortably in confined spaces, such as a clean room or laboratory environment, is essential. Candidates must possess the ability to identify small details within their field of vision, distinguish between different colors, and accurately identify objects within a specific area.
