About the Job: Algorithm Technical Manager Intern (2025)

This internship position is within TikTok’s Governance and Experience team for e-commerce. This team is fundamentally responsible for ensuring the safety and trustworthiness of the marketplace for all users, including buyers, sellers, and creators. They achieve this by developing and implementing policies, rules, and systems aimed at maintaining high quality and user satisfaction. The role specifically seeks an individual who is obsessed with customer experience and passionate about building systems to detect and mitigate various risks that could compromise platform trust.

Internship Details:

TikTok’s internships are designed to offer students significant industry exposure and hands-on experience, helping them develop fundamental skills and explore potential career paths. Interns will benefit from a vibrant blend of social events and enriching development workshops, utilizing their knowledge in real-world scenarios to build a strong foundation for personal and professional growth.

Duration: 12-24 weeks.
Start Dates (2025):
Summer: May 12, May 19, May 27 (Memorial Day), June 9, June 23.
Fall: August 11, August 25, September 8, September 22.

Responsibilities:

As an Algorithm Technical Manager Intern, you will:

Design and Implement Algorithms: Work collaboratively with a team to design and implement sophisticated algorithms specifically aimed at detecting and controlling various risks and frauds related to content, products, sellers, and creators on the platform.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with the strategy team, product managers, policy team, and operations team to help define products and drive initiatives from an engineering perspective, ensuring technical feasibility and strategic alignment.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related technical field. Recent graduates with this background are also highly encouraged to apply.
• Alternatively, a final year student or recent graduate with a background in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire.
• Demonstrate an understanding or keen interest in machine learning (ML), Natural Language Processing (NLP), or computer vision (CV).
• Familiarity with programming languages such as C++, Python, Go, or Java.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated interest or experience in anti-fraud, anti-spam, platform-integrity, or similar fields would be highly advantageous.
• Possess a profound sense of responsibility, coupled with exceptional communication and teamwork skills.

Job Information & Compensation:

Compensation: The hourly rate for this position in the selected city is $75.
Benefits: Interns receive day-one access to health insurance, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, 10 paid holidays per year, and paid sick time (56 hours if hired in the first half of the year, 40 hours if hired in the second half). Interns who are not working 100% remotely may also be eligible for a housing allowance. Please note that the company reserves the right to modify or change these benefits programs at any time.
