Job Description:
This is a full-time, hourly/non-exempt position for an Aircraft Painter/Composite Technician at a Lockheed Martin facility. The work is performed onsite and requires regular attendance on a flexible schedule (multiple shifts available, standard Monday-Friday 40-hour work week also available). Relocation is not available.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will perform a variety of tasks related to aircraft surface preparation and painting, including but not limited to:
• Surface Preparation: Preparing aircraft surfaces for painting, including sanding and masking complex configurations.
• Painting: Spraying primers and applying finish coatings to exterior surfaces; achieving correct thicknesses and verifying with measuring equipment.
• Material Application: Preparing and applying materials for aerodynamic smoothing and flushness, accurately cutting materials to specific dimensions, and bonding them to surfaces within exact tolerances.
• Material Mixing: Mixing primers, top coats, sealants, and fillers to correct ratios.
• Pattern Making: Creating patterns, cutting, and bonding materials to contoured surfaces.
• Blueprint Interpretation: Interpreting blueprints and process specifications; understanding basic shop mathematics and complex application procedures.
• Equipment Operation: Setting up and operating various types of spray guns and other painting equipment, power moving equipment, and vibrating tools.
• Other Tasks: Performing torqueing operations; handling small tools and parts requiring simple grasping, power grasping, and fine manipulation; and performing repetitive tasks.
Physical Requirements:
The job requires full-time standing with limited resting periods and walking distances. Sitting for extended periods may be required. The role demands working at heights, climbing stairs/ladders, and working off step stools, scissor lifts, lift platforms, and aircraft structures (even without handrails). Overhead work is also required. The position necessitates lifting/pushing/pulling/carrying a minimum of 25 lbs. The candidate must be able to twist/bend (neck or waist), stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, and reach, often in awkward positions. High-level hand-eye coordination is essential. Corrective lenses may be used, but eye protection is required in many instances. Color differentiation is necessary. The ability to hear at a level sufficient for the position is mandatory.
Environmental Conditions:
The work environment includes exposure to noise, chemicals, fumes, and dust. The candidate must be capable of using respirators and other personal protective equipment (including hearing protection). Working outdoors may be required.
Basic Qualifications:
• Ability to interpret blueprints.
• Ability to set up and operate various types of spray guns and other painting equipment.
• Ability to sand and mask complex configurations.
Desired Skills:
• Experience prepping, applying coatings, and bonding materials to metal or composite parts.
• Robotic experience (a plus).
• Ability to miter, blend, smooth, treat, and finish parts to meet flushness and engineering requirements.
• Ability to mix materials (primers, top coats, sealants, and fillers) to correct ratios.
• Ability to make patterns, cut, and bond materials to contoured surfaces.
