Job Description: AI Research Scientist
This role focuses on advancing AI research to enhance the capabilities of models and agents in several key areas:
• Code generation: Developing AI models that can effectively generate code.
• Networking: Improving network performance and functionality through AI.
• Human-computer interaction: Enhancing the interaction between humans and computers using AI.
• Model safety: Ensuring the safety and reliability of AI models.
• Other strategic areas: Contributing to other areas of AI research determined by Cisco’s strategic needs.
The position involves:
• Researching and building domain-specific foundational representations, particularly those relevant to networking, that can be applied across diverse applications.
• Acting as a thought leader in the global research community through publishing research papers, presenting at conferences, and organizing workshops.
• Working within a newly formed, dynamic AI team, influencing its culture and direction. Collaboration is emphasized, with interactions involving AI experts, networking experts, engineers, product managers, and strategists.
Minimum Qualifications:
• PhD in Computer Science or a related field and 2+ years of industry/academic research experience, OR
• Master’s degree and 6+ years of industry/academic research experience.
• Minimum of 3 publications in top AI venues (ACL, EMNLP, ICLR, ICML, NAACL, NeurIPS).
• Experience working with Machine Learning Models (MLMs) and familiarity with frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience leading research projects in industry or university settings.
• Interest in combining representation learning and problem-specific properties.
• Experience building and fine-tuning foundation models, including LLMs and multi-modal models, or domain-specific models.
• Ability to stay current on advancements in generative AI, LLMs, and multi-modal models and apply this knowledge to solve business problems.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in an industrial research lab (full-time, internship, or sabbatical).
