Position Summary: AI/ML for Next-Gen Wireless Communications
Join the dynamic SMI lab at Samsung Research America and play a crucial role in shaping Samsung’s strategic vision for the future of wireless communication. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the development of next-generation wireless communication technology by applying advanced AI/ML techniques.
Position Responsibilities
As a key contributor, your responsibilities will include:
• Pioneering Research: Conduct cutting-edge research focused on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques for the optimization of Radio Access Networks (RAN).
• Algorithm Design & Implementation: Design, develop, and meticulously implement advanced AI/ML-based algorithms specifically tailored for critical AI-RAN use cases. This encompasses key areas such as enhancing channel estimation, improving channel prediction accuracy, and optimizing resource allocation within wireless systems.
• Cross-functional Collaboration & Integration: Actively collaborate with cross-functional teams to seamlessly integrate novel AI/ML solutions into existing and future wireless systems. You will be responsible for rigorously evaluating end-to-end performance through comprehensive AI-in-the-loop simulations or hands-on prototyping efforts.
• Knowledge Dissemination: Clearly articulate and present research outcomes by preparing detailed technical reports and compelling presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
Required Skills
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications:
• Academic Background: Currently pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering (EE), Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), or a closely related quantitative field.
• AI/ML Expertise: Possess a deep and comprehensive understanding of various AI/ML algorithms, including advanced neural network architectures (e.g., MLP, CNN, RNN, Transformer, Mamba) and foundational statistical learning methods (e.g., Decision Trees, Random Forests, SVM).
• Programming Proficiency: Demonstrate excellent working knowledge and practical experience with Python, along with its essential machine learning modules and libraries such as Scikit-learn, Tensorflow, PyTorch, and Pandas.
• Practical AI/ML Experience: Prior, demonstrable experience in developing and implementing AI/ML algorithms to solve complex and challenging problems, with a strong preference for applications within wireless communication system design.
• RAN Simulation Tools: Hands-on experience with specialized RAN simulation tools or platforms, such as NVIDIA Sionna or PyAerial, is highly desirable.
• RAN Technology Foundation: A strong theoretical and practical foundation in Radio Access Network (RAN) technologies, including LTE, 5G NR, MIMO, and OFDM.
• Communication Skills: Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for effective collaboration, presenting research findings, and documenting technical work.
