Job Description

Responsibilities

As an AI/ML Engineering intern, you may work on projects that enhance your skills in areas such as:

5G Technology
AR/VR and Computer Vision
Logical data modeling: Development tools & languages; Python, Tensorflow, Ansible, Jupyter
Data Warehousing: DB/SQL, NoSQL
Deep Learning: Natural language processing; computer vision, ontologies, speech analytics
Machine Learning: Anomaly detection, Bayesian statistics, causal inference, NLP, data visualization, digital signal processing, dimensionality reduction techniques, ethics & fairness management, reinforcement learning
Big Data Development: Hive, Impala, Spark, Kafka
Cloud Solutions: Experience with cloud infrastructure
Visualization: Tableau, Power BI, Looker, Shiny
API Integration

Requirements

• Must be currently enrolled in a degree program at Virginia Tech and be in good academic standing.
• Must be able to participate in a 10-week internship from June 2, 2025 to August 8, 2025 working a full-time schedule.
• Must be majoring in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, or related majors with a completion date between December 2026 and June 2028.
• Must have coursework or demonstrated experience in scripting and coding (ex: Python, Java).
• Must have authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for future sponsorship.
• Must be willing to travel and work in an assigned Verizon office.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated strong written and communication skills.
• Experience in Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.
• Knowledge of deep learning (ex: CV models and other data models).
• Knowledge of API Integration, Integrating AI models with software development life cycle.
• Familiarity with AI/ML – Anomaly detection, Data Visualization Supervised and unsupervised learning, Deep learning networks, Natural Language Processing or Computer Vision, Recommender Systems, Python, Software/ML tools.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid role, which means you’ll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum of eight assigned office days per month set by your manager.
