Job Title: AI & Automation Intern

Location: Onsite – Addison, IL

Compensation: $18–$20/hr

Employment Type: Full-time, 10–12 weeks

Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive and hands-on AI & Automation Intern to join our team in Addison, IL. This full-time, 10-12 week internship offers a unique opportunity to build practical AI and automation tools that directly contribute to significant time savings across the company. You will work onsite at our Addison headquarters, supporting real projects from day one, receiving clear direction and structure to ship projects weekly without adding management overhead.

What You’ll Work On (Key Responsibilities)

1. Automation (Using Zapier / Power Automate / Make)

  • Build and Improve Workflows: Design, develop, and optimize automated workflows to eliminate manual steps in various business processes.
  • Create Reusable Assets: Develop simple connectors, triggers, and templates that can be easily reused across the organization to scale automation efforts.

2. AI Assistants (GPT-based tools)

  • Develop Lightweight Internal Tools: Build practical, lightweight AI assistants primarily using GPT-based tools for tasks such as drafting documents, summarizing information, and performing internal lookups.
  • Package and Document Tools: Ensure each tool is packaged with basic documentation and a quick-start guide to facilitate easy adoption and usage by internal teams.

3. Knowledge Search (RAG-lite)

  • Index Internal Knowledge: Assist in indexing a small, focused set of internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
  • Pilot Support & Metrics: Support a pilot implementation of the knowledge search system within one department, actively tracking usage and measuring time-saved metrics to demonstrate impact.

You will collaborate closely with a dedicated team, benefiting from their expertise and guidance:

  • Technical Lead: Providing technical direction and mentorship.
  • People/Program Lead: Ensuring program alignment and intern support.
  • Project Coordinator: Helping manage project timelines and deliverables.
  • Metrics/Dashboards Analyst: Assisting with data collection and impact measurement.

What We’re Looking For (Required Qualifications)

  • Academic Standing: Currently a rising junior or senior pursuing a degree in Computer Science (CS), Information Systems (IS), Industrial Engineering (IE), Data Science, or a related technical field.
  • Automation Platform Experience: Proven experience with leading automation platforms such as Zapier, Power Automate, or Make.
  • Basic Python Skills: Proficiency in basic Python for tasks including API calls, JSON manipulation, and simple scripting.
  • AI Familiarity: Familiarity with OpenAI or Azure OpenAI platforms and their capabilities.
  • Work Ethic: Strong documentation habits and a proactive bias for action.
  • Onsite Requirement: Must be able to work onsite in Addison, IL for the entire duration of the internship.
  • Work Authorization: Must have US work authorization.

  • Live Solutions: 3–5 live automations or AI tools deployed and actively used within the company.
  • Comprehensive Documentation: Clean, thorough documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for every tool and automation you build.
  • Impact Metrics: Clear before/after metrics demonstrating the time saved as a result of your projects.
  • Leadership Presentation: A comprehensive end-of-summer demo to leadership showcasing your achievements and the impact of your work.
