About Innovative Ag Services (IAS):
Innovative Ag Services is a full-service farm cooperative dedicated to meeting all farm needs through a complete line of supplies and services. IAS provides value-added products and services to over 5,000 members across various markets including grain, agronomy, feed, energy, and building supplies. With 30 locations spread throughout northeast and central Iowa, and southwest Wisconsin, IAS proudly ranks as one of the Top Agricultural Cooperatives in Iowa.
Primary Objective of the Internship Program:
The core objective is for interns to gain experience in multiple areas of the agriculture business, while simultaneously contributing to the company’s operations abilities safely and effectively, benefiting both IAS and its member owners.
Agronomy Internship – Level I
- Target Audience: Designed specifically for Freshman and Sophomore level students currently enrolled in post-secondary education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote the sales of all Innovative Ag Services products and programs.
- Conduct scouting of assigned producer fields, providing detailed written feedback to the primary agronomist and the producer.
- Maintain regular communication with sales and location team members.
- Assist with in-season seed and Precision Ag activities as assigned.
- Submit weekly reports detailing contacts made and customer/competitor activity.
- Actively participate in planned training and agronomy coordination meetings.
- Report to and collaborate with agronomists and location managers to quickly resolve any concerns/complaints brought forward by current or prospective customers.
Preferred Majors:
- Agronomy and Crop Science or a related field of study.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Proficient and confident technological skills, especially with Microsoft Suite. Interns will also gain exposure to learning scouting software and soil scan machines.
- Demonstrate a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey information or ideas effectively in both written and oral form.
- Ability to organize, effectively manage change, and work on multiple tasks concurrently.
- Ability to obtain a Class A or B CDL with hazmat endorsement. A seasonal CDL is considered a plus.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Adaptability:
- Agricultural Environment: Possible exposure to seasonal weather, outdoor conditions, and agriculture products.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required for some tasks.
