Job Description:
The AARP Puerto Rico Team seeks a creative and driven student to contribute to their efforts in transforming Puerto Rico into age-friendly communities.
This paid internship offers the chance to:
• Gain valuable experience: Work on real-world projects that directly impact the lives of older adults in Puerto Rico.
• Make a difference: Contribute to the development of age-friendly community plans and initiatives.
• Grow your skills: Develop strategic, analytical, and creative thinking skills in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities:
• Policy analysis and promotion:
• Research and analyze livable communities’ policy issues across eight domains: housing, transportation, health services, civic participation, communications, outdoor spaces, social inclusion, and participation.
• Develop and implement strategies to promote age-friendly community policies.
• Planning and execution:
• Develop comprehensive plans for implementing age-friendly city planning initiatives within municipal governments and community groups.
• Research and advocacy:
• Research livable community policy issues and best practices.
• Draft documents to support AARP’s advocacy efforts.
• Collaboration and communication:
• Participate in team meetings and strategy discussions.
• Contribute to communication tactics.
Qualifications:
• Academic background: Enrolled in an accredited college or university program, preferably in planning, urban design, or a related field.
• Interest in community development: Passion for improving the lives of older adults through community planning.
• Communication skills: Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
• Organization and self-management: Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently, and meet deadlines.
• Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and populations.
• Technical proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
• Analytical and research skills: Strong research and analytical skills.
• Project management knowledge: Familiarity with project management principles.

• Ability to work in an office environment with moderate noise levels.
• Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to work in a hybrid work environment (remote and in-office).
Compensation and Benefits:
• hourly rate: $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates.
• Non-exempt position: Not eligible for employee benefits.
