Summary:
Firefly Aerospace is excited to offer year-round Aerospace Software Engineering Internship opportunities at our Hive location in Cedar Park, Texas. We welcome applications from both current undergraduate students and recent graduates who are eager to make a significant impact in the space industry.
Key Responsibilities:
As an Aerospace Software Engineering Intern, you will play a crucial role in advancing Firefly’s capabilities by:
- Providing essential support for the design, simulation, and testing of Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) algorithms for our advanced launch vehicles and spacecraft.
- Actively contributing to the advancement of Firefly’s simulation capabilities, pushing the state-of-the-art in aerospace modeling.
- Working to improve the reliability and robustness of GNC verification and validation testing, ensuring the highest standards of mission success.
- Enhancing automation tools used for critical mission design and comprehensive post-flight processing.
- Advancing the state-of-the-art of Firefly’s internal tools and software specifically for trajectory design, maneuver planning, and precise orbit determination.
Required Qualifications:
To be considered for this internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Enrollment or recent graduation from a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree program with a strong focus on Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related field, obtained from an accredited four-year university or college.
- Demonstrable experience developing software simulations or algorithms directly relevant to atmospheric or orbital flight.
- Familiarity with fundamental aerospace principles, including dynamics, orbital mechanics, control systems, and estimation theory.
Desired Qualifications:
Candidates possessing the following will be viewed favorably:
- Active participation in a relevant extracurricular university club or laboratory, showcasing practical application of skills.
- Hands-on experience with software development in industry-standard languages such as C/C++ or Python.
- Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems.
ITAR Compliance:
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), applicants must be a U.S. citizen, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
