Your Mission & Key Responsibilities

As a Firefly Aerospace Software Engineering Intern, you will play a crucial role in our pioneering projects:

  • Contribute to Critical Systems: Provide essential support to our seasoned Flight Software, Ground Software, or Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) engineers, working directly on cutting-edge launch vehicle and spacecraft programs. Your contributions will directly impact mission success.
  • Uphold Engineering Excellence: Immerse yourself in the rigorous world of aerospace software engineering, adhering strictly to established processes, procedures, and best practices that ensure reliability and safety in all our space systems.
  • Drive Project Success: Execute assigned tasks with precision and efficiency, consistently delivering high-quality work on-site and on schedule, contributing to the fast-paced development cycles of our innovative programs.

What You’ll Bring to the Launchpad

To thrive in this challenging yet rewarding environment, we are looking for individuals who possess:

  • Academic Foundation: Current enrollment in, or a recent graduate of, a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree program from an accredited four-year university or college, with a strong focus on Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Domain Knowledge: A foundational understanding in a specific software engineering or aerospace engineering area such as orbital mechanics, trajectory analysis, control theory, filtering, machine learning, artificial intelligence, database technologies, networking, or embedded software.
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated experience in software development using key languages such as C++, Python, or LabVIEW.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling clear and concise interaction within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Execution & Prioritization: A proven ability to effectively prioritize tasks and consistently execute assigned work on time, ensuring project milestones are met.
  • Collaborative Spirit: Strong collaboration skills, essential for working closely with diverse teams in a dynamic, high-stakes aerospace environment.

Preferred Skills & Experiences

While not strictly required, these experiences will give you an edge:

  • Version Control Savvy: Practical experience with source code Version Control tools, such as Git.
  • Passionate Engagement: Active participation in a related extracurricular university club, competition team, or laboratory, demonstrating your dedication and interest beyond coursework.

ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
