Adult Protective Services Specialist | Department of Social Services
The Tone:
This is a telecommuter-eligible role, with flexible office space options, at the Department of Social Services. The department is dedicated to protecting Missouri’s most vulnerable adults, focusing on seniors and adults with disabilities. This role is crucial as you will serve as the initial point of contact for individuals reporting abuse, neglect, or exploitation, or for those concerned about victims. Your direct actions in gathering critical information will significantly impact the quality of life for these populations.
The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Location: Remote
• Team: Agents within Missouri’s centralized Adult Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation customer service call center.
• Mission: Serve as the first contact for individuals reporting or concerned about abuse, neglect, or exploitation of vulnerable adults.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Interview: Conduct structured telephone interviews to gather information on reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
• Disseminate: Utilize multiple computer systems for the purpose of disseminating information received at intake to field staff.
• Serve: Provide customer service to a multitude of customers, including other state agencies, community partners, providers, and the public.
• Improve: Actively participate in an environment and culture of progressive improvement.
• Process: Process online, fax, and email reports as assigned.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in nursing (LPN, RN) or social service support fields.
• Experience: For the APS Specialist II position, one or more years of experience in Adult Protective Services or a related human services field.
• Skills: High-level communication and interviewing skills; ability to work independently and show initiative within a team; resilience, critical thinking, and innovation.
