Job Description: Adult/Pediatric Flight Paramedic
The Adult/Pediatric Flight Paramedic is a highly skilled and critical member of a medical transport team, typically working in an RN/Paramedic configuration. This role is central to the provision of pre-hospital and interfacility critical care transport by air (helicopter and fixed wing) and ground.
Key Responsibilities and Functions:
• Comprehensive Patient Care: The paramedic is equally responsible for the assessment, triage, treatment, and evaluation of critically ill or injured adult and pediatric patients. This involves utilizing a comprehensive clinical process to provide the highest level of care.
• Autonomous Practice: Functions autonomously, applying medical protocols and advanced skills under the direct guidance of a medical director.
• Documentation: Meticulously documents all aspects of patient care on the patient record, ensuring accurate and complete information.
• Team Collaboration: Serves as a resource for other flight team members, sharing clinical knowledge and specialized skills. Must be a proficient team member across all transport modalities (helicopter, fixed wing, ground).
• Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work positively and effectively in high-stress environments with patients, their families, peers, and other internal/external personnel.
• Community Engagement: Possesses excellent interpersonal skills, instrumental in providing community outreach and education.
• Safety Adherence: Directly responsible for upholding the mission and goals of UF Health ShandsCair, ensuring that safety remains the highest priority throughout the entire transport continuum.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
• Current certification as EMT-Paramedic under the National Registry is required.
• 5 years of pre-hospital Paramedic experience is required.
• A current State of Florida Paramedic license is required for all flight paramedics.
Required Specialty Certifications (upon hire):
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• ITLS (International Trauma Life Support) or PHTLS (Prehospital Trauma Life Support)
Preferred Certifications (and required within one year of employment):
• CCEMT-P (Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport Paramedic)
• UFCCP
• FP-C (Flight Paramedic Certified)
• AMCCC
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
Preferred Skills and Experience:
• Demonstrated clinical skills in pre-hospital, flight, and critical care transport.
• Instructor statuses in ACLS, PALS, and/or PHTLS.
Driving Requirements:
• Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
• Certification of completion of a Florida approved EVOC driving course is preferred and must be completed within 1 year of hire.
• Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Employees in this position will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a non-frequent driver.
Location-Specific Licensure Requirements:
• Perry FL Base ONLY: Candidate must hold EMT-P state licenses in GA & FL, in addition to National Registry licensure.
• West Bases ONLY: Candidates must hold EMT-P state licenses in AL & FL, in addition to National Registry Licensure.
