Description: Adjunct Professor, Visual Communication and Digital Media Arts (Animation & Motion Graphics)

The Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Bowie State University is seeking an Adjunct Professor to teach courses in the Visual Communication and Digital Media Arts (VCDMA) program, specifically in the Animation and Motion Graphics concentration.

Responsibilities:

• Teach courses in 2D/3D animation, character design, storyboarding, rigging, and/or motion graphics.
• Assist with the management of the computer graphics and digital media labs, studios, and classrooms.
• Serve as Internship Coordinator or assist in this role for undergraduate students.
• Participate in student advising and support for the VCDMA program.
• Participate in VCDMA and DFPA events, screenings, exhibitions, and recruitment/retention efforts.
• Mentor students.
• Collaborate with other VCDMA full-time faculty on student projects, senior thesis exhibitions, portfolio reviews, and assessments.
• Assist with program management and oversight of the VCDMA curriculum, program objectives, goals, and outcomes.
• Participate in VCDMA programs, department, college, faculty meetings, and other activities.
• Liaise with DIT to maintain systems, security, and network integrity.
• Troubleshoot computer and software issues in the VCDMA labs.
• Assist with the supervision of undergraduate student lab assistants.
• Assist VCDMA students with obtaining internships, apprenticeships, and experiential learning experiences.
• Provide creative evidence of research through animated productions, exhibitions, publications, presentations, lectures, or workshops.
• Collaborate with VCDMA/DFPA faculty, staff, and students to provide excellence in higher education for undergraduate students.

Minimum Currently pursuings:

Education: MFA in Animation, Motion Graphics, or related field, with an emphasis on creative research and activity.
Experience: Minimum three (3) years of successful undergraduate teaching experience. Professional experience in animation production studios and the animation industry. Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, students with disabilities, and students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Technical Skills: Expertise in Toon Boom Harmony, Storyboard Pro, Cinema 4D, Autodesk Maya; Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Animate; Premiere, Final Cut Pro) is required.
Other: Commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and technology application. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Experience with Blackboard (or similar), experiential, virtual, and online learning.
