ACCOUNTS MAINTENANCE CLERK/ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN | DFAS

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at DFAS, with positions located in Rome, NY; Limestone, ME; and Cleveland, OH. DFAS is a federal government organization responsible for managing the finances of the Department of Defense. This role is essential for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of accounting records and financial transactions. You will contribute to the sound financial operations that support the agency’s critical mission.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop detailed financial explanations: Research current accounts and historical data to provide clear, detailed financial information not otherwise readily available.
• Balance and reconcile accounts: Research accounting data to ensure accurate balancing and reconciliation of financial accounts.
• Support internal controls: Assist in implementing and maintaining programs to safeguard against financial waste, fraud, and abuse.
• Process accounting transactions: Handle various accounting transactions and manage requests for new accounting records efficiently.
• Verify transaction accuracy: Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and validity of diverse accounting functions and transactions, including obligations, disbursements, and collections.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level career with experience in progressively responsible clerical, office, or financial support work.
• Experience: One year of specialized experience at a level equivalent to federal GS-03/04. For GS-05 positions, experience must include supporting financial/accounting transactions, reviewing/inputting financial data into automated systems, or correcting invalid transactions.
• Skills: Ability to perform detailed research and data analysis; strong attention to accuracy and completeness in financial functions; proficiency in processing various accounting transactions.
• Bonus: Ability to obtain and maintain Financial Management Certification.
