Accounting Systems Intern | Seaboard Overseas and Trading Group

The Tone:
This is an internship at Seaboard Overseas and Trading Group, with an in-person work arrangement. Seaboard’s Corporate Accounting Department manages financial statements, SEC filings, technical guidance, and coordinates ERP systems and new technology initiatives across its divisions. This role is crucial for an intern to gain immersive, real-world experience in automation, analytics, and ERP systems within a corporate accounting environment. The position offers a unique opportunity for students with a strong interest in both accounting and computer automation to contribute directly to the department’s technology advancements.

• Team: Corporate Accounting Department, no direct reports.
• Mission: To participate in the planning, development, monitoring, and maintenance of automation technologies and ERP systems.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft SharePoint, Viva Engage, UiPath, Savant, Microsoft Word, Excel, Yammer, Teams, Visio, Power BI, Alteryx, Power Automate, AI coding tools.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Collaborate: Engage with division personnel, other corporate departments, and external auditors on various projects.
• Develop Automations: Become proficient in creating workflows using tools like UiPath and Savant, and contribute to minor development and changes to existing automations.
• Test and Deploy: Assist with testing new automations and configuring approved processes for movement into the production environment.
• Monitor Systems: Review daily automation runs, identify errors or failures, and perform initial troubleshooting.
• Document Processes: Write clear documentation for how automations are used and configured, and perform business analysis to map human and robot processes.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting OR Computer Science/Information Systems/Data Science, with satisfactory completion of introductory courses in both areas.
• Experience: Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required. The commitment for this role is 8-12 months.
• Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, a high level of efficiency, accuracy, and responsibility, plus motivation and a strong desire to learn. Must be highly organized, creative, detail-oriented, curious, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Bonus: Desirable experience includes other Microsoft tools like SharePoint, Yammer, Teams, Visio, or Power BI, automation tools such as UiPath, Alteryx, Savant, or Power Automate, and any AI coding tools.
