Accounting Manager | Addison Group
The Tone:
This is a full-time, fully in-office role at a client of Addison Group, located in Queens, NY. This position is critical for maintaining the financial integrity and efficiency of the organization by overseeing all general ledger accounting operations. The role ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance with GAAP and tax regulations, and the smooth execution of month-end and year-end close processes, directly supporting the Controller and other accounting teams.
The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: 40 hours per week, Fully in-office
• Location: In-person, Queens, NY
• Pay: $130,000–$160,000 yearly
• Team: Reports directly to the Controller, leads the General Ledger Team, and collaborates with Billing and A/R, A/P, and Cash Management teams.
• Mission: This person owns the accuracy and timeliness of all general ledger accounting operations and financial reporting while developing the General Ledger Team.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office Suite, accounting software (NetSuite experience strongly preferred)
What You’ll Actually Do
• General Ledger Oversight: Oversee the entire general ledger accounting process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and applicable accounting standards, and managing financial transactions across assets, liabilities, equity, expenses, prepaids, and accruals.
• Financial Close Management: Supervise month-end and year-end close processes, which includes preparing and distributing a monthly close calendar, monitoring deliverables and deadlines, executing balance sheet and income statement reconciliations, and preparing and uploading journal entries into the ERP system.
• Financial Control and Policy: Develop and maintain comprehensive accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to support accuracy and efficiency in financial reporting. This includes partnering with the Controller to maintain the chart of accounts and coordinating with external auditors and regulatory agencies for compliance.
• Payroll & Expense Processing: Review, process, and record weekly payroll journal entries, including payroll accruals, performing monthly reconciliation of payroll expense accounts, and ensuring adequate funding for disbursements while verifying all transactions are accurately recorded.
• Team Leadership & Development: Lead and manage the General Ledger Team by providing clear direction, comprehensive training, mentorship, and constructive performance feedback to support professional growth and adherence to best practices. This role also champions process improvement and efficiency across financial systems.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, demonstrating a strong command of GAAP, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and tax regulations, essential for this leadership role.
• Experience: 5+ years of accounting experience gained in public and/or private industry, with proven expertise in leading general ledger operations and effectively managing an accounting team.
• Skills: Strong knowledge of financial reporting, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation, coupled with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software. This role also requires strong leadership, mentoring, communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Bonus: A Master’s degree is preferred, and strong experience with NetSuite accounting software is highly valued.
