2027 Summer Accounting Intern | WoodmenLife

The Tone:
This is an internship at WoodmenLife, located in Omaha, NE (hybrid). WoodmenLife is a not-for-profit life insurance company with over 135 years of service, dedicated to protecting the financial future of families and making a difference in hometowns across America. This role is vital for supporting the Accounting division’s daily objectives, allowing you to gain valuable workplace experience in the insurance industry. Through this 10-week program, you will contribute to value-added work, bring fresh perspectives, and enhance the organization’s talent pipeline.

The TL;DR

• Type: Seasonal (10-week Summer Internship Program)

• Mission: Assist with administrative functions and support the Accounting division’s daily objectives to gain workplace experience.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office

What You’ll Actually Do
• Internship Engagement: Gain broad exposure to the WoodmenLife organization through weekly meetings with an Internship Cohort, Executive Leadership, and division leaders.
• Financial Operations: Gain an in-depth introduction to Accounts Payable processes, such as coding and processing payments, and various Accounts Receivable processes, including applying payments and researching.
• Financial Reporting: Provide support for financial statements and regulatory filings while developing an understanding of the Annual Statement preparation process.
• Tax Compliance: Process and complete certain tax returns, and gain an in-depth introduction to unclaimed property and unemployment filings.
• Project Presentation: Summarize and present a capstone presentation of the internship experience, highlighting project accomplishments, skill development, and key learnings.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in college, with a major in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related fields, and a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Experience: Ability to work 38.75 hours per week during the 10-week program.
• Skills: Strong communication and collaboration skills; Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office; The ability to provide seamless, trustworthy, attentive and resourceful (S.T.A.R.) customer service.
