The Tone:
This is a Part-time Intern position at Catholic Charities Southeast Michigan, located in Southfield, MI. Catholic Charities Southeast Michigan provides essential support to individuals and families, delivering programs and services consistent with Catholic teachings and values. This role is vital for supporting the accounting team’s daily operations, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, and helping to maintain compliance within a non-profit environment. The intern will gain hands-on experience while contributing to the organization’s mission-driven work.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Close Support: Support month-end and year-end close activities by assisting in the preparation of schedules, supporting documentation, and various reconciliations.
• Record Maintenance: Assist with research, filing, data entry, and recording to maintain accurate and complete financial records.
• File Organization: Organize financial files and audit support materials while upholding confidentiality and strong internal controls.
• AP/AR Assistance: Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including filing and scanning documents for appropriate storage.
• Mission Adherence: Adhere to the Mission, Values, and Vision of Catholic Charities Southeast Michigan and uphold the values and teachings of the Catholic Church.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field, with completion of intermediate accounting coursework as a junior-level major. Candidates should possess a basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Experience: 0-2 years of experience. Previous internship, volunteer, campus leadership, or office experience is preferred.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications, strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills, along with good problem-solving and communication skills. Ability to handle sensitive financial and confidential information with discretion is required.
• Bonus: Interest and exposure in nonprofit accounting, accountability, and mission-driven work. Familiarity with Sage accounting software, knowledge of GAAP, and basic nonprofit accounting concepts are a plus.
