About the Monteith Intern Program

Our 2026 Summer Internship Program is designed to offer a realistic and immersive view into the world of commercial construction at Monteith Construction. While the program encompasses various operations roles, this specific internship offers hands-on experience working closely with our dedicated Accounting team.

Interns will gain exposure to a diverse range of projects, varying in scope and contract amounts, and will have the invaluable opportunity to work alongside industry leaders from across our organization. This particular role is based in Wilmington, NC, and provides the unique opportunity to continue working part-time through the end of the fall semester.

What You’ll Do At Monteith (Wilmington, NC)

Spend your summer gaining practical, real-world experience with our Accounting team. Your responsibilities and learning opportunities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Observe and participate in monthly financial project costing meetings, understanding the critical discussions around project finances.
  • Help to administer and control General Conditions costs, including reviewing purchase orders and checking requests for accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist the Accounting team in maintaining essential accounts with utility providers for various project teams.
  • Interact directly with trade partners and vendors, addressing both technical and contractual matters to ensure smooth project operations.
  • Analyze the revenue and profitability of individual construction projects, gaining insight into financial performance.
  • Collaborate with the project team and project accountant to manage overall project costs effectively, ensuring alignment with the established budget.
  • Assist in processing trade partner payables and help to manage accounts receivable processes.
  • Support project teams with crucial monthly job cost analysis and forecasts.
  • Gain a valuable general overview of critical departmental processes including Scheduling, VDC (Virtual Design and Construction), Accounting, Marketing, Business Development, Preconstruction, and Estimating.

Experience You Should Have

  • Must currently be enrolled in an accredited college or university and seeking a degree in Accounting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability and willingness to continue to work part-time throughout the fall semester.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both verbally and in writing, with diverse stakeholders.

Compensation

The pay range for this role is $17.50 USD per hour (Monteith Wilmington).
