Job Description

This role is for a paid accounting internship at PetVet Care Centers, offering hands-on experience in various financial operations.

General Responsibilities:
• Support routine activities of the Finance Team based on priorities, such as reconciling and analyzing account balances during month-end close.
• Learn to prepare clear, well-structured, and effective account reconciliations for various accounts.
• Perform analytical reviews and conduct research, utilizing strong critical thinking skills to meet business requirements.
• Prepare and verify documents required for financial statement audit purposes.
• Actively participate in weekly and monthly team meetings of the Finance Team.

Cash Management Responsibilities:
• Assist with daily check retention and maintaining a log of received check deposits.
• Help in coding check deposits to the appropriate trial balance accounts.
• Participate in the completion of monthly bank reconciliations.
• Engage in hospital outreach, maintaining correspondences with local hospital personnel regarding cash handling processes (e.g., clarifying incoming checks for coding).

Leases And Fixed Asset Management Responsibilities:
• Review Capital expenses by analyzing vendor invoices to identify expenditures that need reclassification to fixed assets (approximately 8 hours per week).
• Assist in managing the Leases email inbox for landlord requests and hospital manager questions.
• Support ongoing Fixed Asset projects, including reviewing Construction in Progress (CIP) and subledger clean-up.
• Assist with preparing monthly lease rollforwards in accordance with ASC 842.
• Aid in month-end tasks, such as reviewing vendor invoices to identify items with service periods exceeding one period, and preparing related journal entries to amortize prepaid licenses, memberships, and other expenses that require amortization.

Other Accounting Responsibilities:
• Review legal invoice expenses.
• Assist with month-end tasks, including reviewing and categorizing General Ledger (GL) data for meaningful Profit & Loss (P&L) analysis by vendor, specifically including legal related costs.
• Assist the team in pulling vendor invoices as part of the month-end review process.

Qualifications:
• Rising senior and master’s students majoring in Accounting, with consideration for equivalent finance and business programs.
• Ability to work 20 hours per week.
• Familiarity with MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
• Demonstrated team player attitude and willingness to share knowledge and learn new tasks.
• Possession of strong communication, time management, and organizational skills.
• Interest in developing personal skills in the use of accounting and financial reporting systems (specifically D365).
• Eagerness to learn, coupled with a positive attitude and enthusiasm.

• Paid internship with a rate of $20 per hour.
• Flexible work schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in the office, with times adjustable based on the student’s class schedule.

Pay Range:
