Summer 2027 Accounting Intern | Diamondback Energy

The Tone:
This is a full-time, seasonal internship at Diamondback Energy, located in Oklahoma City, OK. Diamondback Energy is an independent oil and natural gas company headquartered in Midland, Texas, with an additional Accounting and IT presence in Oklahoma City. The company is strategically focused on the acquisition, development, exploration, and exploitation of unconventional, onshore oil and natural gas reserves exclusively in the Permian Basin in West Texas. This crucial role provides an Accounting Intern with the opportunity to own a dedicated summer project, working directly on essential business functions such as detailed financial analysis, comprehensive internal and external financial reporting, and critical operational accounting processes. It offers a unique opportunity to significantly develop practical accounting and finance skills under the direct supervision and guidance of an experienced mentor, while gaining firsthand exposure to the complexities and operations within an oil and gas exploration and production company.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Leadership: Own an assigned, individual Accounting project throughout the summer, from inception to completion, culminating in a formal presentation of the completed project to Diamondback’s executive team.
• Skill Enhancement: Actively develop and refine accounting and finance skills under the direct supervision and guidance of an assigned, experienced mentor, gaining practical industry knowledge.
• Core Accounting: Assist with preparing accurate month-end financial reports, efficiently post journal entries, or meticulously complete balance sheet reconciliations as part of routine operational accounting processes.
• Cross-Functional Exposure: Work directly with diverse teams across accounting, finance, and other disciplines to experience and understand the full operational landscape of an Oil & Gas Exploration and Production company.
• Compliance and Support: Support various budget cycles, aid in the timely completion of regulatory filings, and assist with auditor requests, providing quality compliance and administrative support to the department.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a similar relevant discipline. This position is designed for an Entry-Level candidate.
• Experience: Must be returning to school for the Fall 2027 semester after the internship concludes, demonstrating an ongoing academic pursuit.
• Skills: Possess strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills crucial for team collaboration and project success. Must be willing to work in Oklahoma City, OK for the entire 12-week duration of the internship.
• Bonus: A GPA of 3.20 or higher is preferred, alongside evidence of extracurricular achievements or prior relevant work experience.
