Accounting Student Intern | Schaefer’s Electrical Enclosures
The Tone:
This is an internship at Schaefer’s Electrical Enclosures, located in Scott City, MO. Schaefer’s specializes in manufacturing electrical enclosures, supporting essential infrastructure. This role provides crucial accounting and administrative support for the daily financial operations of the manufacturing facility. The intern ensures accuracy, compliance, and adherence to company policies, contributing directly to the financial integrity and smooth functioning of the business.

• Team: Reports to the Accounting Manager, collaborates with Purchasing, Shipping, Sales, Customer Service, Manufacturing, and Inventory.
• Mission: Provides accounting and administrative support to ensure accurate and timely financial records for daily operations.
• Tech Stack: ERP or Manufacturing Accounting Software (preferred), Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Office applications.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Invoice and Payment Processing: Generate customer invoices for products shipped, including appropriate freight charges or services rendered, post customer payments, prepare daily cash receipt documentation, and process vendor invoices with three-way match verification.
• Account Reconciliation & Compliance: Reconcile general ledger accounts, assist with month-end closing activities, and ensure adherence to company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
• Accounts Monitoring & Collections: Monitor customer accounts receivable aging, execute collection calls on past due accounts professionally, and evaluate credit requests for new and existing accounts based on payment performance.
• Discrepancy Resolution & Vendor Relations: Process customer credits, resolve invoice discrepancies with customers or vendors, maintain positive rapport, and ensure vendor master data is accurate for payment processing and compliance.
• Record Keeping & Audit Support: Maintain organized and accurate accounting records, supporting documentation, and financial reports, respond promptly to customer or supplier inquiries, and assist with external audits as needed.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. High school diploma or GED required; an Associate degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance is preferred.
• Experience: Two or more years of accounting experience, preferably gained within a manufacturing environment.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications; strong mathematical aptitude and high data entry accuracy; excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
• Bonus: Experience with ERP or Manufacturing Accounting Software is preferred.
