Junior Accountant | Gerald Group

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Gerald Metals, located in Stamford, CT. Gerald Group is a leading private global metals trading company established in 1962, focusing on the physical sale, development, trade, and structured financing of commodities and commodity-linked assets. The company operates globally, managing mining and metals assets and facilities in various jurisdictions across precious and non-precious metals. Gerald Group provides comprehensive trading and investment solutions to both producer and consumer clients worldwide. This Junior Accountant position is fundamental to the Accounting Department, supporting the accurate preparation of books and records and contributing to the financial reporting process. The individual in this role plays a key part in ensuring the reliability and integrity of the company’s financial data and operational efficiency.

• Mission: Own the accurate recording and reconciliation of daily financial activities and actively participate in month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, accounting systems, Microsoft Office Suite

What You’ll Actually Do
• Daily Financial Operations: Record and reconcile daily cash receipts and disbursements, ensuring all transactions are accurately reflected in the books.
• Accounts Payable Management: Review accounts payable aging reports, actively following up on overdue items and managing vendor communication to ensure timely payments.
• Monthly Reconciliations: Prepare comprehensive monthly bank reconciliations and broker reconciliations as part of the regular month-end closing process.
• Corporate Expense Tracking: Record and reconcile all corporate credit card accounts, maintaining precise records of company expenditures.
• Financial Closing Support: Participate actively in both month-end and year-end closing procedures, and assist the accounting manager by providing analysis and information during the annual audit.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level accounting professional with core domain knowledge in financial record keeping, reconciliation practices, and foundational accounting principles.
• Experience: 1-3 years of accounting experience in a demanding financial or trading environment.
• Skills: Strong data entry skills, a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, and proficient document control abilities.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and general computer skills, with experience using accounting systems.
• Core Competencies: Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing demands effectively, coupled with strong communication and presentation skills.
