WS – Spring Term INTERNSHIP – FaithLife Appalachia – Accounting Assistant – FWS | University of Pikeville

The Tone:
This is an internship role at FaithLife Appalachia, located in Pikeville, KY, and offered through the University of Pikeville. FaithLife Appalachia is a nonprofit organization dedicated to spiritual renewal and long-term economic transformation in Central Appalachia through leadership development, enterprise creation, and place-based revitalization. This Accounting Assistant internship plays a crucial role by ensuring meticulous financial data management and reporting, which is essential for supporting the organization’s mission of community and economic development.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Data Management: Accurately enter and categorize financial transactions within QuickBooks to ensure real-time tracking of organizational funds.
• Reporting & Analysis: Assist with account reconciliations and the preparation of monthly financial reports to support data-driven decision-making.
• Compliance & Documentation: Track specific program expenses and maintain meticulous supporting documentation to ensure audit readiness.
• Record Systems: Organize and digitize receipts, invoices, and vital financial records to streamline office operations.
• Strategic Planning Support: Participate in budgeting and financial planning processes, helping to align capital strategies with organizational goals.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Current University of Pikeville student in good academic standing, eligible for Federal Work Study, and demonstrating a strong interest in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• Experience: Experience with Excel or basic accounting systems is helpful; a willingness to master QuickBooks is essential.
• Skills: Strong organizational abilities, commitment to precision in data entry, ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining high levels of accuracy, and ability to clearly explain financial findings or documentation needs to non-financial staff. Other key skills include attention to detail, written and verbal communication, and a willingness to learn new things.
• Bonus: An interest in financial systems specifically within the context of nonprofit operations and regional renewal, and comfort working both independently on focused tasks and collaboratively within a mission-driven team.
