Staff Accountant, General Partner (GP) Reporting | The Carlyle Group

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at The Carlyle Group, located in Washington, DC, requiring four days per week in-office. Carlyle is a global investment firm managing assets across private equity, credit, and investment solutions. This Staff Accountant position is critical for maintaining the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the firm’s general partner entities. The role supports key accounting functions, ensures accurate cash reconciliations, and facilitates important financial transactions, directly contributing to the smooth functioning of Carlyle’s investment operations.

• Mission: Ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of cash activities and processing of critical financial transactions for Carlyle’s general partner and consolidated entities.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Cash Reconciliation: Reconcile daily cash activities for various Carlyle GP, Parent, IPO, and consolidated entities, including identifying and correcting miscoded entries and manually booking journal entries as needed.
• Transaction Processing: Initiate cash transfers for capital calls and distributions using PeopleSoft/GPM and ensure new bank accounts are updated and ready for use while managing existing accounts.
• Inbox and Data Management: Manage the team’s group email inbox (GPILP) using Salesforce, record capital calls and GP distributions on trackers, and save relevant notices on the shared drive.
• Carried Interest Disbursal: Facilitate the disbursement of carried interest and other performance fees to deal team participants, ensuring successful payments and coordinating cost recovery.
• General Ledger Closing Support: Support month-end and quarter-end closing processes by completing audit cash reconciliation sign-offs, assisting with external auditor requests, and processing manual journal entries in PeopleSoft.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Accounting/Finance, required.
• Experience: 0-2 years of relevant Accounting/Business experience, with fundamental bookkeeping and accounting skills.
• Skills: Proficient Microsoft Office skills (advanced in MS Word and Excel), organized and efficient, strong professional and communication skills, excellent problem-solving, analytical, and process improvement skills.
• Bonus: Experience with PeopleSoft, OneStream, Claude AI, Power BI, and/or Salesforce.
