Accountant 1 (Investment Control Division) | NEOGOV

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the State Employees’ Retirement System (SERS), located remotely within Pennsylvania with occasional onsite visits, or on-site in Dauphin County, PA. SERS is a public sector retirement plan established in 1923, managing pension benefits for over 246,000 employees and retirees across 96 public sector employers and overseeing nearly $50 billion in assets. This position plays a key operational role within a small team in the Investment Control Division, performing essential functions to manage the Defined Benefit Plan investment portfolio and fulfill Board directives.

• Mission: Processes routine and non-routine investment transactions to manage the Defined Benefit Plan investment portfolio effectively.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel

What You’ll Actually Do
• Process Capital Calls: Review capital call notices, verify supporting documents, and enter payment details into required systems.
• Maintain Daily Cash Flow: Update the Daily Cash Flow Tracker to record capital calls, distributions, fee payments, and transaction details.
• Review Investment Invoices: Check investment-related invoices and confirm public market management fee invoices for accuracy.
• Monitor Distributions: Track pending cash and stock distributions until funds or shares are received at the custodian.
• Perform Monthly Ledger Work: Prepare journal entries and complete general ledger reconciliations each month.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree including or supplemented by fifteen credits in accounting, or within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
• Experience: Successful completion of the Commonwealth’s Accounting Intern Program; OR one year as a Fiscal Technician (or equivalent Federal job title) and fifteen college credits in accounting; OR one year as a Financial Programs Trainee (or equivalent Federal job title); OR five years of Bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits in accounting.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, strong organizational skills, ability to manage deadlines, capability to handle multiple priorities, and self-motivation.
