What You’ll Actually Do
• General Accounting: Perform general to highly complex professional accountant work assignments, including specialized or general analysis in various accounting functions like Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, or Asset Management.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare balance sheets, make adjustments and closing entries, and develop annual financial reports, statements, inventory, receipts, and disbursements for management and outside agencies.
• System Improvement: Design and implement new formats, programs, or procedures, and revise existing ones, to enhance accounting, budgeting, and financial statement preparation processes.
• Audit & Billing: Conduct internal audits, prepare reports supporting budget requests, audit concessionaires and other contracted agencies, and initiate collection procedures on delinquencies.
• Cost Accounting: Compute and distribute labor, material, and overhead costs, and reconcile and analyze cost account ledgers.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Accounting. This position may underfill at an Accountant I level, which requires an Associate’s degree in business management, accounting, or a related field.
• Experience: For Accountant II, two to four years of related work experience; for Accountant I, zero to three years of related work experience. Education and work experience may be substituted one for the other on a year-for-year basis.
• Skills: Ability to apply professional judgment in accounting techniques and principles, make accurate mathematical calculations, operate a 10-key calculator, and demonstrate proficiency with MS Word and Excel.
• Bonus: Knowledge of specific laws, ordinances, and regulations governing the City’s financial operations, experience in municipal accounting/auditing, and must be bondable at standard rates.
