The Tone:
This is a full-time role at University of Missouri Health Care, located in Columbia, MO. MU Health Care operates as an academic health system, featuring seven hospitals, including the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center and Children’s Hospital, alongside over 90 specialty clinics. This position directly supports the finance department by meticulously maintaining financial records, preparing critical reports, and ensuring compliance with hospital regulations. The Accountant I plays an important role in enabling efficient financial operations and contributing to the organization’s mission to save and improve lives.

• Mission: Ensure accurate financial record-keeping and compliance to support efficient financial operations and reporting for the health system.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Record Management: Maintain accurate and organized financial records, including invoices, receipts, and statements.
• Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing and reviewing accounting transactions and reports, including monthly and fiscal year-end financial statements.
• Account Reconciliation: Reconcile general ledger accounts monthly to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Data Analysis: Prepare and enter journal entries, research information, collect data, and create analyses for budgets, billing, and purchasing.
• Compliance & Audit: Ensure adherence to hospital policies and GAAP, and assist with preparing for annual audits by organizing necessary financial documents.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience: One (1) year of experience in accounting, finance, or a related area.
• Skills: Financial Record Keeping, General Ledger Reconciliation, Financial Reporting, GAAP Compliance, Data Analysis.
• Bonus: Prior experience in a healthcare or hospital finance setting, with a strong understanding of hospital financial operations and billing processes.
