Staff Accountant | Walden Local Meat Co.

The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role at Walden Local Meat Co., located in Tewksbury, MA. Walden Local is a Certified B Corp on a mission to change the meat industry by displacing industrial, factory-farmed meat and seafood with sustainable, ethical, local alternatives. This role is critical to the small accounting team, bringing a hands-on mindset and strong analytical skills to manage daily financial operations, support growth, and improve existing financial systems within an inventory-based business.

• Pay: $75000–$80000 yearly
• Team: Reports to Controller
• Mission: Owns day-to-day AP/AR management, tracks complicated inventory costs, and supports monthly and quarterly close cycles for a growing, inventory-based business.
• Tech Stack: Xero, Stripe, Square

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounts Payable: Oversee accounts payable, including verifying and coding invoices, managing purchase orders, and initiating payment runs.
• Accounts Receivable: Handle accounts receivable processes, including preparing deposits and managing collection efforts.
• Financial Closing: Perform precise reconciliations and accruals as part of the monthly and quarter-end closing processes.
• Financial Reporting: Collaborate with members of the finance team to prepare timely and accurate financial statements.
• Process Improvement: Partner with other finance team members to identify and implement improvements for the overall close process.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional accounting work experience.
• Experience: 2+ years of professional accounting experience, particularly with a hands-on approach in an inventory-based business environment.
• Skills: Advanced Excel proficiency, including concepts of databases and using mathematical, logical, statistical, and financial functions; exceptional attention to detail; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Bonus: Passion for the mission of sustainable agriculture and food, along with experience using Xero, Stripe, and Square.
