Accountant | OOCL North America Group

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at OOCL North America Group, requiring residency in the Salt Lake City or South Jordan, UT general area. OOCL stands as one of the world’s largest integrated international container transportation, logistics, and subsidiary companies, recognized as a global brand originating from Hong Kong. The company delivers fully integrated logistics and containerized transportation services across a vast network spanning Asia, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Australasia. Within this global operation, the Accountant plays a critical part in the Financial Control team. This team oversees all accounting and tax activities for multiple North American business entities, encompassing diverse industries such as ocean carrier agency, trucking, intermodal/rail, and real estate. The role is essential for maintaining and developing accounting principles and procedures in alignment with corporate headquarters, ensuring the delivery of accurate and timely financial statements to external stakeholders, precise internal reporting for corporate management, and continuous compliance with regulations.

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Monday to Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm
• Location: In-person, South Jordan, UT

• Team: Financial Control team, responsible for multiple North American business entities.
• Mission: To ensure accurate and timely financial statements, internal reporting, and compliance for North American Group companies through meticulous accounting and tax activities.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office applications

What You’ll Actually Do
• Journal Entries: Prepare journal entries, including month-end close and cash management for North American Group companies.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare consolidated financials for multiple entities in accordance with US GAAP and IFRS.
• Reporting Packages: Compile and submit monthly, quarterly, and annually reporting packages to Headquarters.
• Account Management: Perform account analysis, prepare account reconciliations, and maintain general ledger accounts and company records.
• Audit, Tax, and Process Support: Prepare audit workpapers, internal financial packages, and financial statements; support tax-related filings, provisions, and projects; and participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting.
• Experience: 2-3 years of accounting experience, specifically in month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP and IFRS, proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications, and effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Bonus: CPA license or current plans to obtain it, experience with SAP or other ERP systems, knowledge of financial statement preparation and audit support processes, and experience with tax compliance, tax provision, and multistate tax filings. Additionally, knowledge of the shipping, logistics, or transportation industry, coupled with strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills, attention to detail, and a continuous improvement mindset are preferred.
