Accountant – Controller’s Office | Southeast Missouri State University

What You’ll Actually Do
• Reconciliation: Prepare journal entries and reconcile various general ledger accounts, investigating and correcting inaccuracies.
• Compliance: Ensure integrity and accuracy of all accounting transactions under GAAP, and assist in compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
• Reporting: Reconcile and analyze complex balance sheet and income statement accounts, preparing periodic financial reports for departments and management.
• System Administration: Create, modify, and deactivate Banner Finance user access, maintaining security roles and financial manager assignments.
• Internal Controls: Maintain strong internal controls over financial processes and Banner security administration to safeguard University assets.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, with a focus on core accounting principles.
• Experience: Minimum of one year of experience preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and generating financial reports, alongside experience with ERP system administration including user security roles and access controls. Also, a minimum of one year of experience with Word, Excel, and Access.
• Skills: General understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); Strong verbal and written communication skills; Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
• Bonus: Experience supporting audits and preparing workpapers; experience with Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB).
