The Tone:
This is a full-time, on-site Accountant role at Waste Alternatives, located in Sarasota, FL. Waste Alternatives is dedicated to helping businesses reduce expenses, minimize landfill impact, and save time by optimizing waste and recycling services nationwide. This role is crucial for maintaining the financial health of the organization, ensuring accuracy and compliance, and providing essential data that drives strategic decisions for the company’s continued growth and efficiency. The Accountant plays a key part in supporting the company’s mission to provide transparent, consultative support to its customers.

• Mission: Own the accuracy and compliance of financial records to support efficient waste and recycling management and inform strategic business decisions.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Management: Oversee daily financial operations, including managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and monthly closings.
• Reporting: Prepare comprehensive financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
• Reconciliation & Compliance: Reconcile financial accounts, monitor budget adherence, and support audits to uphold accuracy and regulatory compliance with accounting standards.
• Analysis: Interpret financial data to inform management decisions, support forecasting activities, and monitor cash flow trends.
• Process Improvement: Collaborate with operational and leadership teams to enhance financial processes, specifically within waste and recycling services.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; strong core accounting skills including general ledger management, accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Experience: Proficiency with accounting software, spreadsheets, ERP systems, and financial databases; experience supporting audits and ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Skills: Analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret financial data and recommend process improvements; attention to detail and organizational skills to manage deadlines; effective written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration; knowledge of GAAP and basic tax principles.
• Bonus: CPA or progress toward certification; prior experience in waste management, recycling, logistics, or a related industry.
