About the Company

ABC11, also known as WTVD-TV, is a television station in Durham, North Carolina, United States, affiliated with ABC and owned by the Walt Disney Company through its ABC Owned Television Stations subsidiary. The station serves the Raleigh–Durham–Fayettville designated market area. ABC11’s studios are located on Cornwallis Road in Durham, and its transmitter is located in northeast Chatham County.

About the Job

The ABC11 Internship Program with the ABC11 Troubleshooter is designed to provide a student with in-depth and hands-on experience trying to resolve viewers’ issues with business and consumer-related problems. The intern will work closely with ABC11 Troubleshooter Diane Wilson.

Job Description

As an ABC11 Intern, you will:

• Develop editorial judgment and research skills by reviewing consumer problems
• Write emails to businesses and companies involved in consumer complaints
• Confirm required information and data to investigate claims
• Partner with ABC11 Troubleshooter to write and craft stories for multiple platforms

Qualifications

• Current class standing of sophomore, junior, or senior
• Strong academic record
• Commitment to working for the entire length of the internship
• Knowledge of current events and/or consumer news
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-platform, and deadline-driven environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Effective communication skills, along with strong writing and video editing skills
• Familiarity with long-form TV and video production
• Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

• Major or previous coursework in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, Business Administration, Media Law, or a related field
• Proficiency in Zoom meeting coordination

Eligibility Requirements

• Be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program
• OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at the time of the application posting
• OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
• Possess unrestricted work authorization

Additional Information

• Must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship
• The approximate dates of this internship are August 2024 through January 2025
• All candidates must be willing to work 20 hours/week (hours and days to be determined by the supervisor)
• Able to provide housing for the duration of the internship program in the Durham, North Carolina area
• Able to provide reliable transportation to/from work in the North Carolina area
