Location:
This role is scheduled to be 100% remote. While remote, finalists MUST reside in one of the following states to be eligible for employment with Kaiser Permanente: CA, OR, WA, HI, CO, GA, MD, VA, CT, DC, or IL.

Department Description:
The department plays a pivotal role in risk management and strategic business analysis. As an intern, you will engage in the rigorous evaluation of standard and complex datasets, meticulously analyzing trends related to premium structures, claims patterns, exposure levels, and population demographics. You will actively participate in learning, utilizing, and thoroughly documenting sophisticated actuarial and business intelligence models, analytical tools, and underlying assumptions critical for robust business strategy analysis and proactive risk management initiatives. Interns will contribute significantly to the development of competitive rates and strategic account plans designed to effectively mitigate financial risk, and support crucial renewal rate negotiations through comprehensive information review and data-driven insights.

Intern Project(s):
This internship offers practical experience supporting key departmental functions. You will actively participate in the analysis, interpretation, and professional reporting of complex data sets, providing tangible contributions to departmental goals. Additionally, you will contribute to practical, real-world case studies and underwriting processes, gaining hands-on experience in risk assessment and policy development as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities:
As a Summer Intern, you will be instrumental in:
• Actively contributing to and driving designated projects and strategic initiatives, aligning efforts with key Kaiser Permanente business objectives to deliver tangible results.
• Undertaking comprehensive report development and advanced analytics, translating complex data into actionable insights for stakeholders.
• Participating in various facets of project management, including meticulous planning, efficient execution, and robust measurement of outcomes.
• Proactively learning and mastering new software applications and analytical tools essential for assignment completion and effective support of critical business objectives.
• Engaging in job shadowing opportunities across various functional areas, gaining a holistic understanding of Kaiser Permanente’s operations and interdepartmental collaboration.
• Performing additional duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach to supporting team goals.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
Education:
• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program at an accredited university, or have graduated within the last year (from 2025 onwards).
• Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) is a fundamental requirement.
License, Certification, Registration: N/A
Additional Requirements:
• Demonstrated aptitude for data and process analytics, coupled with the ability to creatively formulate data-driven solutions.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for professional communication, data management, and impactful presentations.

Preferred Qualifications:
• A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

• Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships and possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
