2026 Behavioral Health Internship

About Community Bridges:
Community Bridges is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to serving individuals with developmental disabilities in Concord, NH and the Lakes Region. We offer internships to students, graduate students, and recent graduates who demonstrate an interest or experience in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. Each internship incorporates an educational component, allowing interns to contextualize their experience and reflect on their service.

Internship Details:
All internships are unpaid and generally align with the US semester system:

  • Summer Internship: June 2026 – August 2026
  • Fall Internship: September 2026 – December 2026

First consideration is given to applicants who can commit at least 16 hours per week over the course of the outlined semester. Applicants are encouraged to apply regardless of whether their schedule precisely fits the semester system; Community Bridges makes exceptions on a case-by-case basis. Slots fill quickly, and candidates are encouraged to apply earlier than the requested date.

Please note that this internship will operate in a hybrid format, requiring some in-person hours at our Concord, NH office.

Behavioral Health Internship Overview:
The Behavioral Health Intern will collaborate closely with Community Bridges’ Clinical Support Supervisor and the broader Behavioral Health team. This role focuses on supporting assessment, intervention, and care coordination activities for individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities who engage in challenging or high-risk behaviors. This internship offers exposure to evidence-informed practices, interdisciplinary teamwork, and ethical standards in behavioral health, while directly contributing to excellent client care.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the creation and implementation of behavior support plans for individuals.
  • Conduct referrals and uphold required documentation for individuals with behavior support plans.
  • Create and update trainings and resources that enhance agency comprehension on behavioral support plans.
  • Attend team and committee meetings to develop understanding in service provision, local risk management, and human rights.
  • Aid in trainings hosted by the Behavioral team, including Principles of Behavior and Forensics 101.
  • Support data collection, entry, and tracking to inform program participation, evaluation, and quality improvement.
  • Follow all safety, risk management, and crisis escalation procedures, promptly notifying supervisor/team of concerns or mandated reporter risks.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned and dependent upon the intern’s educational goals.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Interest in mental health, psychology, and/or behavioral health sciences.
  • Interest in advocacy and supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals, families, team members, and community members.
  • Display and maintain professional boundaries with individuals and families.
  • Ability to work respectfully in a multicultural environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Professionalism, discretion, and maturity in dealing with confidential information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the internship, interns will be able to:

  • Demonstrate skills in client engagement, active listening, and culturally informed communication when interacting with individuals and families.
  • Understand and implement person-centered thinking strategies in all areas of behavioral health.
  • Identify signs that may indicate elevated risk to an individual seeking behavioral support and describe the site’s procedures for mandated reporting and escalation under supervision.
  • Accurately document observations, case notes, or session information in a clear, objective, and organized manner.
  • Respectfully express and engage ideas and values in a multicultural, neurodivergent space.
