Its mission is to diligently conserve and enhance Kansas’ natural heritage, including its diverse wildlife and habitats, ensuring these benefits endure for future generations. Concurrently, it creates opportunities for citizens to thoughtfully use and appreciate these resources, fosters public understanding and support, and actively promotes recreational, historic, cultural, and natural attractions to stimulate tourism and travel within the state.

This vital work is carried out by a dedicated team of approximately 460 full-time employees across five key divisions. Guided by a Secretary appointed by the Governor and advised by a bipartisan commission, the organization maintains a culture of public accountability and professional excellence.
