Job Description: Mechanical Lab Intern
This internship position is for a motivated Mechanical Lab Intern at Valvoline Global’s Ashland Automotive Propulsion Laboratory. The role offers practical, hands-on experience within a dynamic automotive testing environment, with a focus on internal combustion engines, powertrain components, and vehicle-level testing. The intern will collaborate with experienced engineers and technicians, contributing to real-world research and development projects aimed at advancing automotive lubricant performance.
How You’ll Make An Impact:
The intern will support innovation in automotive lubricant performance by assisting with R&D projects in a hands-on capacity within an automotive testing environment.
Responsibilities Include:
• Assisting technicians and engineers with maintenance, repairs, and system installations.
• Helping to design and set up testing components and mechanical assemblies.
• Supporting the setup, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
• Participating in hands-on problem-solving and diagnostics across various test environments.
• Maintaining accurate documentation, including maintenance logs, test data, and technical observations.
• Providing general technical support as needed within the lab.
• Following all safety protocols and company procedures in a lab/testing setting.
What You’ll Need:
• Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and tools.
• Familiarity with measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers).
• Plus: Experience or interest in 3D CAD modeling, 3D printing, or data acquisition systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and general computer use.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
• Solid problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
• Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, walk, climb, and stand for extended periods.
