Job Description, detailed
This position is an Intern-UT, West Valley role within the Family Services organization, located in West Valley City, UT, United States. The primary purpose of this role is to assist Church leaders in caring for individuals facing social and emotional challenges by providing resources aligned with gospel principles. The intern will provide direct counseling services and consultation to ecclesiastical leaders under close supervision.
Key responsibilities of the intern include:
• Providing Clinical Care (60%): Delivering direct counseling services to clients with a wide variety of social and emotional problems, which may include, but are not limited to, issues such as suicide, mental disorders, child and spouse abuse, and other family relationship problems. All clinical care is performed under close supervision.
• Providing Consultation and Maintaining Rapport (20%): Offering consultation services to Church leaders and fostering a positive relationship with them to facilitate effective support for individuals.
• Maintaining Accurate Notes (15%): Ensuring that all client notes and related documentation in the data collection system are accurate and up-to-date.
• Maintaining Work Area (5%): Keeping the work area clean, safe, and well-organized.
The work environment demands strict adherence to confidentiality, legal compliance, and professional standards of practice. The incumbent must demonstrate professionalism and sensitivity when handling confidential issues, as well as strict policy and legal compliance.
Qualifications for this internship include:
• Enrollment as a 2nd-year master’s degree student in a counseling-related field such as Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Counseling Psychology, or a closely related discipline.
• Ability to uphold exacting standards of moral conduct.
• Knowledge of legal issues pertinent to the counseling profession.
• Strong ability to communicate sensitive subject matter professionally with both clients and ecclesiastical leaders.
• Proven written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to develop and adhere to an individual training plan for continuous skill education and professional development.
• Capability to provide services consistent with gospel standards and values.
• A professional appearance and attitude.
